RE: Canaan Valley State Park

We were planning to head to this campground the weekend of 10/17 - 10/19. Called for a reservation and was told they stop taking reservations the week before that. After 10/15, it's apparently all first come, first serve. Will it be hard to get a site if I arrive by 2:00 on a Friday afternoon (10/17)?

RE: Castaways Update

Spent last weekend at Castaways and we were very pleased with our stay. I can confirm others' reports that construction seems to be complete and the whole compaground is open. The place was full. They seem to have worked out a lot of the kinks people were mentioning earlier in this thread. We had very pleasant experiences with staff. The workcamper who drove the shuttle bus to Ocean City was extremely pleasant. My wife was walking a bag to trash to the dumpster and a maintenance man stopped her and took the bag insisting "you can't be doing that...you're on vacation!!" I had trouble getting the screw on top off of the sewer line and after advising the office, I had a (different) maintenance guy on my site within five minutes to fix the problem. We'll definitely be back.

RE: Campgrounds Wiliamsport Pa

We stayed here a few years ago and it was pretty nice. Right on the Susquehanna River: http://www.riverside-campground.com/

RE: Any campground owners here?

If you're really serious, I'd suggest you attend this workshop the next time it's offered: http://www.campgroundsforsale.com/Workshop/workshop.htm My wife and I were considering buying a campground about four years ago and we attended this seminar. Although we decided against buying, we found the workshop to be quite informative and eye-opening. Good luck.

RE: RV Parks accessible to Orioles Stadium

KOA in Millersville is closer to the stadium, but Ramblin Pines is nicer. You could also check out Patapsco State Park, but their sites are electric only. Morris Meadows in Freeland, MD is another option.

RE: Suggestion on Maryland Campground

Elk Neck State Park would seem to fit the bill.

RE: Castaways Campground Ocean City MD

If you have a reservation make sure you call first. We just talked to them and our site is not one that has been "approved." Evidently they are making arrangements to use alternate sites until every site gets an approval rating. Right now only parts of the campground will be open.:C This makes sense to me bacause I drove through Castaways last Sunday (6/1) and there was no way the entire place would be ready to open by tomorrow. Certain sites...yes, I can see that...but not the whole place. Also, I'd suggest you bring "muddy ground shoes" as a lot of the grass was just starting to germinate and a lot of the place was still dirt. I'm sure they've done a lot of sprucing up this week if they're opening, even on a limited basis. But I'd geuss it might still be a little messy, especially if it rains.

Castaways Update

I drove through Castaways this morning (6/1). All of the sites are paved in the "Club Casaways" area and all of the sites in the other parts of the parks are level gravel. Electric boxes are in on all sites but I don't think its was connected yet. Sites appear to be very reasonably sized. You will not be right on top of your neighbor. I was surprised and pleased with the size of the sites. The fixed builings are built. The store/office at the entrance is very nice. As are the 2 or 3 bathhouses. I didn't get out of the car to check the status of the interior of these buildings. The pool is in and the rebar for the concrete decking was in place. Looked like that would be poured this week. Looked like the crabbing/fishing pier was under construction and not too far from completion. My eatimate on time for completion?? I think July 4th is possible and if you have an August reservation (as I do), you should be in good shape.

RE: Tybee Island Campground

We stayed at Rivers End on Tybee Island once a few years ago. I remember the campground being just fine, but what I really remember is that it was an easy walk to the beach. And the beach there was really neat because it's very close to where the Savannah River (I think it was the Savannah River) dumps into the Atlantic Ocean and all I rememeber is being very mesmerized by all of the the huge freighters that kept coming in and out of the channel. It was a really cool sight.

RE: Ferryboat Campsites Liverpool Pa

My daughter had a softball tournamrnt in the area and we used this campground as our base. It was more than adequate for that purpose. But I agree with the others, other than the river/ferry,not a lot to do on site. I don't think there was even a "beach area" where you could swim in the river if you wanted to. Lots of the permanent folks have fishing boats and this place is perfect for them. They did have a game room for the kids and they enjoyed that. 3 nights would be good, but not much more.

RE: Campgrounds near Columbia MD

I work in Columbia and when we first moved to the area, we had to live in the RV for a few months while house hunting. We used Ramlin' Pines as our base. It's quite convenient and a nice campground.
